Product Development Engineer/Program Manager - PA
Position Description
Basic Purpose: To develop military IR countermeasures and other new products in an R&D setting. Will also be responsible for Program Management on designate d programs.
- Applies creativity to develop original, preferably proprietary product designs in response to customer needs.
- Modifies existing products to meet additional customer requirements.
- Conducts design verification testing of functional prototypes. Verifies performance to specifications.
- Assist in proposal preparation, generate product cost estimates.
- Writes technical reports and white paper proposals.
- Assists a cross-functional team to transfer new products to Production.
- Functions as a program manager on designate d programs: generates and monitors project schedules and budgets, provides periodic program updates, coordinates review meetings, functions as customer POC.
Typical Activities:
Design and development of new products, both IR countermeasures and others. This position will generate and analyze data regarding the design, performance, fabrication and costing of new IR countermeasure products and other new products. Such data may come from: laboratory experiments, mathematical analysis, physical testing, literature references, and modeling. In addition, this position will include Program Management on designate d programs. Effective interaction with others in the R&D, QA, Production and Finance departments is required. Program Management will include serving as a customer POC. Preparation of reports on design analysis, test and evaluation results, and failure analysis are functions of this position.
Work Environment:
R&D Engineering department of an ISO-certified manufacturing government contractor. Typical office and mechanical laboratory setting. Occasional travel for program review, testing, and technical conferences.
Knowledge, skills and Experience:
This position requires:
- Excellent Program Management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple aspects of development programs.
- Demonstrated ability to drive development programs to successful conclusion in a timely manner.
- Considerable experience in mechanical product design. Patent experience preferred.
- Knowledge of design verification testing procedures and methods.
- Ability to apply qualitative and quantitative data analysis to solve problems.
- Experience in proposal preparation and cost estimating.
- 3-D CAD skills preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
This level of knowledge and skill is usually attained through at least an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 10 years experience in product design. In addition, candidate should have demonstrated Program Management skills.
